The steading at Spital Tower was severely damaged by fire, with only the loose box enclosures surviving unscathed, the rest of the building reduced to the stonework. As part of the remediation, the opportunity was taken to reinstate the natural ventilation system and add skylights to the loose boxes, to extend the tack room and attic, and convert one room to a farm office. The main workshop was rebuilt to suit the demands of modern farming. It also houses a log-fired biomass boiler which supplies the whole estate, including the Ruberslaw Wild Woods Camping site across the burn.
