Lochinvar is an important historic house in the Hunter Valley on the Kaludah Estate. The land had been granted to Leslie Duguid in 1822, and the names 'Lochinvar' and 'Lake Katrine' are drawn from stories by Walter Scott based in Duguid's Scottish homeland. The original house was constructed c.1840 with additions in 1882 by Pender, the most prominent local architect of the time. A conservation management plan was prepared to guide the ongoing use and care of the house, its outbuildings, and its landscape setting.
