Little Barbigal is a modern working farmhouse, situated on a low rise looking out over the plains surrounding Dubbo in central New South Wales. The design is in a simple contemporary style, drawing on traditional vernacular forms and materials, with three distinct elements. The main pavilion contains the living spaces and family bedrooms, all contained within an expansive hipped roof of corrugated steel supported on hardwood timber posts around its edge, the wall line stepping in and out to create a verandah of varying width. Attached to this is a small tower element containing the master bedroom suite, finished in rendered masonry, its vertical proportions providing a counterpoint to the long horizontal mass of the pavilion. Finally, there is a simple timber framed garage wing with additional bedrooms over, located to form an entry court on one side and a service area to the other. Construction was completed in 2002.
