The Byron Bay House is a modern country home in the Byron Bay hinterlands of northern New South Wales. The design responds to the site’s hot and humid climate, and the expansive views out over the surrounding hills. The building comprises three attached pavilions. The main pavilion comprises a large open plan living/dining/kitchen space on the upper floor level, the raked ceiling extended to form wide sheltered verandahs at either end, whilst the lower floor level has a games room and guest bedrooms. The second pavilion comprises the family bedrooms and bathrooms, and forms a link through to the site of the original cottage. The third pavilion is a garage, placed to create a sheltered entry court. The predominant materials are exposed hardwood timber framing and corrugated steel. Construction was completed in 2007.
